Linked production brief

Your Critical Investigation topic:  My critical investigation topic is the changing representation of females in Hollywood films.  Your Linked Production brief:  The text that I am talking about is a film so essentially producing a scene would link very well to my critical investigation.  Length/size of production (e.g. 3 minutes, 5 pages etc.):  The size of the production is going to be around 3 minutes and not much longer.  Give an example of an existing media text that is similar to what you plan to produce:  My film is going to be low budget British superhero film that consists of a main character realising that he has some sort of power. This is similar to other superhero films such as:  X-men  The Flash Spider-Man  Give an example of an institution that would produce or distribute your planned production: DC Entertainment  Marvel  How would your production reach its audience? The production would reach it's audience through streaming services such as Netf

Preliminary Task

Preliminary exercise: Recreation task Your Year 13 Preliminary Exercise is to produce a 30-second OR one-page shot-by-shot recreation of an existing text that is similar to the production you are planning to create. Complete the following in a blogpost called 'Recreation task planning': Name of the text you plan to recreate: The name of the text I plan to recreate is a scene from the film called "Brotherhood" which was released in 2016 that focuses on the problems that Sam faces.  Scene/section you will recreate: The scene I will recreate is the clip where it shows the character "HUGS" meeting Sam and threatening him and his family.  Location you will use for your recreation filming/photoshoot: The location I will use is something similar to the location in the scene so probably in a posh area in London that have those sort of houses.  Actors you will require for your recreation: The actors I will require for this recreation are essentially people t

Introduction – lay out argument, primary text and any secondary/historical texts. Present your angle/hypothesis. You can mention a theory or two but don’t go into detail – save that for later. 250 words. Section 1 – historical/secondary texts. I agree with starting here but I’m not sure on your historical texts. Why Mice & Men? Completely different genre – I would stay closer to superhero genre for this section. Perhaps look at Dark Knight for recent secondary text, Catwoman (2004), Elekra (2005). You will need to re-research this, perhaps go back to BFI Library, do more textual analysis. 500 words. Catwoman wasnt as successful maybe due to the fact that the society didn' want to see a female protagonist at that time. Supergirl too.  Section 2 – Primary text: Wonder Woman. Textual analysis. Media key concepts etc. Quotes/reviews etc. 500 words. Section 3 – Research and theory. Don’t try and cover everything here – e.g. Colonialism will probably drift you away from

Moonlight film trip

Image
Moonlight is a coming of age movie that focuses on 3 different chapters of one person's life. This movie is directed and written by Barry Jenkins. The whole plot of this movie was that there is this boy living in a ghetto area where he grows up in. Growing up with his mother, she was addicted to drugs which led him to struggle with his identity and his sexuality. Essentially, with no guidance from his mum, he ended up in jail where years later, he comes out as a very big and masculine character.  Chiron is a character of few words. Why is this? How do the three actors use body language to communicate Chiron’s emotions to the audience? Why is he reluctant to make eye contact with people? - Within the film, Chiron is a character that was always bullied and harassed from young age due to his looks and the way he dresses with not much care from his mother. Simply being called names and not having many friends led to his low self esteem which resulted to Chiron being a charact

Textual Analysis

Textual Analysis https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIfPq3biW_o This particular scene consists of a brutal fight between the females who are the amazons against the German soldiers who were all males. The fight errupted as soon as the male pilot invaded the island which the German soldiers followed and they also invaded the island afterwards. Then the amazons vs the German soldiers fight became apparent. I chose this scene specifically because I thought it was a very defining and a spectacular scene that almost represents females as very strong and fearless even though many of the amazons can be seen dead. The representation of all females being dominant against males in one scene is very unusual in Hollywood movies, even a strong female character. The use of editing such as the slow motion effect when the female character jumped and killed 3 soldiers with one bow made it look more dramatic in the sense that the audiences are given a more detailed and a slower version o

Media Notes and Quotes

Wonder Woman (2017) – Primary Text The changing representation of females in mainstream films. Hypothesis: I do think that the portrayal of females in mainstream films has changed over the years. The films before in the 20th century especially portrayed females to be the weak, foolish and for sex appeal characters whereas now, in the 21st century, it has changed a bit as more females are having the chance to have a higher role in films like The Hunger Games. However, they are still sexualised and the representation of females hasn't changed completely in a fair way. How do films such as Wonder Woman reflect the changing representation of women in Hollywood movies?  The Wonder Woman film consists of a female protagonist that beholds power and authority over mankind. She leads people and fights alongside men to end all wars. The portrayal within the film is essentially a subversive portrayal of females which is very unusual especially with mainstream films like Wonder
